Casa Piloto

CITY::GENETIC is an on-going project, a creative adventure and a meeting of inspired minds. A number of artists from different disciplines are sowing the seeds for a “genetic” experiment. They start with a single piece that represents the beginning of a story. Then they pass the seed to a second artist who makes the story evolve with a second piece. The process repeats until the creation of a genetic chain: the art work.

Simultaneously, the curators of Citypulse send the same seed to another 3 artists in each discipline in order to create a total of 4 parallel stories per format, all sharing the original DNA.

This site is updated continuously as the genetics of creative evolves.

These artists are sowing the seeds:

1. I am your child, mine. The stranger you already know, a secret protection. The dream you had. A ribbon of time flutters through us.
2. A moon waxes over the sea. Dry tubers stir in mud; my mouth opens into cold light. She who knows the orphan brushes her footprints away.

Citygenetic is an ongoing project, a musical adventure and a meeting of musical minds. The project consists of a seed – the seed is a sixty second piece of music which has been created by Tim Martin (Maps and Diagrams). The seed has been passed onto different musicians of varying styles and genres for them to interpret and continue the music to form a branch. Over the course of the project four branches will be constructed, each branch will consist of ten artists and ten minutes of music which will be assembled to form a continuous embodiment of sound which will be forty minutes long.

This project is on-going and will be constantly updated as new music is created.

by Carlos Tromben
<img src="http://payload4.cargocollective.com/1/5/175023/2380999/Imagen1b_640.jpg" width="640" height="640" width_o="700" height_o="700" src_o="http://payload4.cargocollective.com/1/5/175023/2380999/Imagen1b_o.jpg" data-mid="12476685" border="0" align="left"/>

Mock up house
The mock up house stands just after the lodge and next to the sales offices. A two-bedroom, two-bathroom, living/dining-room plus kitchen & services flat, exactly as the flyer says. Inside it the sales-pitch takes a life of its own: vertical curtains sieve the city’s yellowish light, plastic flowers emerge from flowerpots. Mother acknowledges the four chairs around the table, the furniture with glasses and liquor bottles, and the soft and modern-style sofa. She pictures birthdays and dinners, weekend lunches, hurriedly delivered Monday-to-Friday breakfasts. Past the dining-room door is a 40 by 30 foot room for the kids with sliding window, bunk bed, modular shelf and writing-desk, plus two Pixar-Disney posters on the wall.
Father gazes around, figuring the mortgage numbers. He suddenly stops.
Somebody is in the master bedroom.
Sitting in the bed, a girl watches TV. It is an unexpected vision that ruins the marketing effect of the mock-up house.
She notices them and stands ups, smoothes the bed and greets them with a perfect salesperson’s smile. Mother begins to assault her with questions, which the girl answers with kindness. Father watches them in silence and hears the children playing and laughing in the garden.
Is this total happiness or only its prospectus? Mother follows the girl and Father stays alone, his outstretched nose chasing the girl’s lingering scent in the bedroom. He sits on the bed, exactly where she just sat and where her hips left a slight depression in the bedspreads.
Father picks up the remote control and feels transported to an ideal world. He zaps all the channels, turn the TV off and leaves. He meets Mother in the kitchen: the girl is explaining her how to deal with the electrical boiler, the heating system and the built-in furniture. Father observes her half-opened blouse and calls the kids.
The girl gives them a set of brochures to inform them about the condominium´s amenities and its 100 per cent-reliable security system. She mentions future subway extensions and infrastructure investments that sooner or later will be carried out, cutting travel times to downtown and increasing the property´s value.
The family boards the 10.000 km.-plus, Korean-made car, and Father picks the road back to their leased apartment.
“What do you think,” asks Mother.
Father could call the mortgage agent next Monday. He has done his research, knows all about procedures, terms, interest rates, insurance and taxes.
“Nice,” he says, watching the girl’s silhouette fading in the rearview mirror.
